Electric Trailer Restraint – MF2-067-000
The Lock & Load™ Vehicle Restraint with Roller Slope Extension secures trailers to the dock by locking onto the Rear Impact Guard (RIG) with a rotating steel hook. Operated from a control panel inside the building, it keeps dock personnel safely indoors while controlling trailer engagement and release.
The system features a Roller Slope Extension to minimize resistance as the carriage adjusts to varying RIG heights—reducing wear on the trailer, carriage, and pavement. The engagement range spans 9 to 30 inches (229 mm to 762 mm) above grade, making it compatible with most trailer types. As the trailer backs into position, a spring-loaded carriage assembly auto-aligns and rides down its track until the hook engages the RIG.
Mounted above ground, the Lock & Load™ stays clear of snow, standing water, and debris. The system is built for long-term outdoor exposure with zinc-plated structural steel components and watertight electrical connectors for corrosion resistance.
- Hook engagement holds up to 38,000 lbs of pullout force
- One-way braking system keeps hook locked under tension
- Roller Slope Extension reduces wear and rolls cleanly across pavement
- LED lights and horn-based alerts ensure operator and driver awareness
- Control box includes a horn override for fault conditions
STRUCTURAL
The rotating hook is machined from 1.25-inch thick A514 Grade B steel plate, driven by a 1.25-inch diameter cold-rolled 1018 steel shaft. The roller carriage rides on abrasion-resistant steel side plates and includes 2 5/6-inch diameter cold-rolled 1045 steel rollers. Axles and shafts are built from 1045 steel as well.
The roller track is formed from ASTM A572 Grade 50 steel and shaped into a 6 3/8" × 3" channel with 7/8" flanges, anchored to the dock face with fifteen (15) 5/8" × 4" heavy-duty sleeve anchors.
ELECTRICAL
All operator controls are housed in a weather-sealed panel mounted inside the dock. The system runs on 110/115V single-phase power and draws 15 amps. The motor and limit switches are protected in a steel housing. Electrical components are UL listed or recognized.
Note: Unless otherwise stated on the quote, all electrical hookup is the responsibility of the customer or contractor.
COMMUNICATION SYSTEM
The system communicates operational status clearly to both dock attendants and drivers:
- Outside: Constant flashing red/green LED lights with signs indicating when it's safe to back in or pull away
- Inside: Matching flashing red/green LED lights inform dock staff when it's safe to load or unload
- Audible Alarm: Sounds when the RIG is not properly secured
- Horn Override: Allows authorized personnel to bypass fault alarms in non-critical conditions (code: 5528)
All lighting is LED-based for long life and energy efficiency.
- OPTIONAL FEATURES
- Cantilever mounting bracket
- Driveway plate for surface-mount installs
- Green light interlock system
- Open dock stanchion for control panel
Operating Procedure
Locking the Restraint
- Back the trailer firmly against the dock bumpers
- Press the RESTRAIN button—hook rotates up to engage the RIG
- Inside light turns green; outside light turns red once locked
Unlocking the Restraint
- Press the RELEASE button—hook returns to stored position
- Inside and outside lights flash red to indicate caution
Fault Conditions
- Hook cannot engage due to obstruction, missing RIG, or alignment issue
- Inside light flashes red; horn pulses
- Operator can secure the trailer by alternate means, then use horn override if required
